The race of Santa Claus doesn’t matter to a lot of people — but it seems to really matter to the people at Fox News.

Just days after Fox anchor Megyn Kelly ignited a firestorm when she said it was a “verifiable fact” that both Santa and perhaps more importantly, Jesus Christ, were both white men, her colleague Bill O’Reilly has now come to her defense with what he called “historical truth.”

“Ms. Kelly is correct. Santa was a white person,” O’Reilly said but he was quick to add that “the ‘Spirit Of Santa’ transcends all racial boundaries.”

He also claimed that the debate over Santa’s race was just an attempt to “demonize” Fox News.

Following Kelly’s comments a schoolteacher in New Mexico was disciplined for telling a ninth-grade student that Santa was white.

Meanwhile, black Santas from across the country are mystified by the sudden rush to define the holiday character’s race.

“I just thought I was getting paid to put on a Santa suit and say ‘Ho! Ho! Ho!’”  black Santa Langston Patterson said about his decision to take the job after it was offered to him in 2004. “But then I sat down and saw their reactions. I get a chance to make kids happy.”
