ATLANTA – Celebrities, dignitaries, public officials and members of the business community turned out in full force Saturday at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis for the annual UNCF’s Mayor’s Masked Ball.
Now in its 30th year, the glitzy charity gala attracted more than 1,200 supporters, including singer Cee-Lo Green, actress Jasmine Guy, reality star Phaedra Parks and Ambassador Andrew Young.
Hosted annually by the sitting mayor, the signature fundraiser is this year expected to raise somewhere in the region of $1million to benefit the United Negro College Fund’s (UNCF) member institutions.
Arguably one of Atlanta’s most eligible bachelors, incumbent Mayor Kasim Reed, attended with stunner Sarah Langford on his arm. His proud parents, Junius and Sylvia, were also in attendance.
The evening was topped by a performance by legendary singer Gladys Knight, who performed classics such as “If I Were Your Woman” and “Midnight Train to Georgia” to the delight of the crowd.
The United Negro College Fund is the nation’s oldest and most successful minority higher education assistance organization.  The UNCF’s president and CEO Michel Lomax attended with his wife, Cheryl.
