One year ago, South Carolina native Candice Glover was an unknown but supremely talented singer.

Fast forward to 2014, the reigning champion of American Idol is poised for a shot at superstardom.

After managing to endure the grueling Idol competition, Glover has learned to embrace whatever awaits her in the future, while keeping the judges’ advice close to heart.

“Mariah Carey was so nice. And she was very reassuring,” Glover said reflecting on her time as an Idol finalist. “When Mariah says you can sing, you can sing.”

Oscar winner and Idol veteran Jennifer Hudson had a rocky tenure on the show but her career flourished after being eliminated. Glover had the chance to perform with Hudson during her run and she says the experience was more than memorable.

“She’s the perfect example of someone who didn’t even win, but had success after. Success is the best revenge and even after it was all said and done, people still had to pay their respects.”

Check out what else Candice Glover had to stay and listen to her new single “I Cried.” Glover’s debut album Music Speaks will be available Feb 18th. Preorder here.
