Rumors have been swirling around a sequel to Will Smith’s biggest blockbuster, Independence Day, for years and now we finally have some official news to report.

According to producers, Smith will not be returning for the sequel to the 1996 sci-fi adventure, even though his co-stars Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum still might.

Rising star Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station) is allegedly being considered for the lead role.

The new film, tentatively titled ID: Forever is being planned for a summer 2016 release, which would coincide with the twentieth anniversary of the first film.

Smith is expected to star opposite Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) in an upcoming drama called Focus and he also may reprise his iconic role in of Agent J in yet another Men In Black movie.
