This year’s Oscar night was a particularly emotional one for myself, and the rest of America, as we saw a woman of color revel in what was undoubtedly her “Cinderella moment.”
Not only did Lupita Nyong’o’s speech bring the down the house (not to mention a tear or two), but she transcended the stereotypical image of “America’s Sweetheart.” Nothing was more symbolic of this than her red carpet look, which only reinforced her ability to challenge the fashion norms and draw us into her fairytale story.
A lot has been said about that night about how she broke traditions and shattered perceptions.
