AUSTIN, Tx. – Doctors at Brackrenridge Medical Center say a total of six patients still remain hospitalized. Three patients were in critical condition, two are listed as fair, and the sixth patient is in good condition.

It was an emotional day for the victims’ family members who have been showing up at the hospital from across the world.

Shennika Davis got a call in Fort Worth at 3 a.m. Thursday. The caller said a car struck her niece, Curtisha Davis, and Curtisha’s boyfriend, Dre Tatum, 200 miles away at South by Southwest.

“It’s very painful, it’s not anything anyone would actually ever want to hear,” said Shennika. “They were together, and they just came down here to see the musical festival.”

Shennika said her 18-year-old niece is now in critical condition at the hospital suffering from a neck injury and broken bones. Tatum, 18, is in intensive care.

“All she’s saying is ‘why did this happen,’” Shennika said. “‘I was having so much fun, why did this happen?’”
