Dorothy Owens is a 92-year-old Memphis native who was recently honored with her high school diploma.
According to KLTV, Owens withdrew from high school after her father passed away from a severe leg injury in the late 1930s. Soon after, she began working at a young age to help support her family financially.
Now, decades later, Owen’s granddaughter made it her mission to give Owens one of the most pleasant surprises of her lifetime.
Owens’ granddaughters wrote a letter to Booker T. Washington high school in Tennessee, where their grandmother once attended, and requested a honorary diploma be awarded in her favor.
In February, on Owens’ 92nd birthday, Owens’ granddaughters presented her with that honor.
