TODAY — The woman who promised to make 300 sandwiches for her boyfriend in exchange for a ring is now engaged, she announced Tuesday.
“The day after I arrived in Barbados, E had a big shocker for me: he asked me to marry him,” Stephanie Smith wrote on her blog chronicling her culinary quest. “I was working on sandwich #257. I guess neither one of us could wait until #300.”
Smith, a reporter for the New York Post’s Page Six section, has detailed her journey to her boyfriend’s heart by way of his stomach through her “300 Sandwiches” blog, where she painstakingly documents her creations, ranging from lobster rolls to ice cream sandwiches. Smith created the website after making her beau a sandwich he loved so much that he declared: “Honey, you’re 300 sandwiches away from an engagement ring!”
Although that boyfriend, Eric Schulte, made good on his promise while the two were vacationing in Barbados, he made his intentions clear long before the deal they struck. He also confirmed them during a TODAY appearance last September.
“I would have married her without one sandwich,” he said at the time.
