Tractor trailer driver Kevin Roper has been charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault for causing the deadly car crash that left several people, including comedian Tracy Morgan, in critical condition.

The accident occurred when the 35-year-old truck driver failed to notice traffic slowing ahead of him on the New Jersey Turnpike northbound lanes. He attempted to swerve out of the way but collided with the back of Morgan’s chauffeured limousine bus.

Six vehicles in total were involved in the pile up.

Morgan and friends were on their way home from a comedy show in Delaware when the accident occurred.

Roper was driving a Walmart truck at the time of the accident.

Walmart released this statement:

We’re praying for the family and friends of the passenger who lost his life in the terrible accident in New Jersey…. If it’s determined that our truck caused the accident, Walmart will take full responsibility.
