Missing Detroit boy's dad says "No comment"

Charlie Bothuell VI is saying “no comment” in answering questions about the strange disappearance and discovery of his son.

The  12-year-old Detroit, Michigan, boy was found alive in his father’s basement Wednesday after being reported as missing for 11 days.

Detroit police and Child Protective Services descended on the home and arrested Charlie Bothuell’s stepmother on a probation violation and removed two other children, a 4-year-old boy and a 10-month-old girl, from the home.

The Elder Charles Bothuell was approached by NBC station WDIV after his wife and two infant children were taken into custody.  Bothuell says he appreciated the efforts to “get the word out” but had no other comment.

Police said they believe the 12-year-old boy was in the basement the entire time he was missing and that he would come upstairs when he thought the coast was clear in order to eat.

Sources said home-schooled Charlie said he was on a strict regimen and his father had been on him about his weight. Investigators are looking into that as a possible motive for Charlie to hide.
