TheGrio caught up with Susan Sarandon while she was doing press for her new film, Tammy, and the actress opened up about becoming a grandmother later this summer.

Sarandon plays the role of Pearl, an adventurous, alcoholic grandmother, who takes off on an impromptu road trip with her granddaughter Tammy (Melissa McCarthy).

Starring alongside improve veteran Melissa McCarthy, Sarandon said she wasn’t nervous, rather “really excited” to work with McCarthy and director Ben Falcone.

While Pearl isn’t the ideal grandmother, Sarandon said she is very excited to become a grandmother in real life later this summer. Her daughter, Eva Amurri Martino, is due this August.

The actress was even wearing a name necklace with “Honey” spelled out, saying that is what she wants her grandchildren to call her.

“I do think it’s your responsibility as a parent or a grandparent to make memories,” said Sarandon.
