An official date for the controversial Lifetime Aaliyah biopic has been announced via Twitter. Aaliyah: Princess of R&B is scheduled to air on November 15.

The R&B singer was originally going to be played by Disney star Zendaya. However, the actress pulled out due to criticism.

Eventually, the Nickelodeon star Alexandra Shipp took her place. The cast replacement happened at the same time Wendy Williams was announced as being the executive producer.

Lifetime took to Twitter to announce the date it will air:

Aaliyah’s family hasn’t agreed with the making of this movie. They have also been very inflexible about using the Princess’s music in the picture.

Based on Christopher Farley’s biography, Aaliyah: More Than a Woman, the singer’s family believes a simple TV movie doesn’t suit a huge artist like Aaliyah.

Some Aaliyah’s fans haven’t been happy about the network’s selection of Zendaya, even though she has had a successful career thus far. Her number 1 hit “Replay” sold in over a million copies.

Will you be tuning in for the biopic?
