Aretha Franklin does a round of awkward satellite interviews

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Technical difficulties marred a live interview series via satellite with Aretha Franklin broadcast to a dozen different stations on Friday.

The interview came in support for her most recent album, a collection of covers released on RCA Records called Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics. A collection of clips from the interviews, done with local and cable stations, was posted showing Franklin dealing with technical delays, a malfunctioning earpiece and other difficulties.

Although technology wasn’t entirely to blame for the awkward interviews — with Franklin admitting to one interviewer that she only had “four hours sleep, so I’m a little slow” — it did the 72 year-old Queen of Soul few favors during the station-hopping interview circuit.

A clip detailing the more awkward moments from the interviews can be found on Gawker, but here’s a gif showing about how much she cared:

Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics is set to be released on October 21 and is the 38th studio album from the singer. It is her first major studio release since 2003’s So Damn Happy.
