That’s a lot of diapers.
Late last month, Roderick Phillips was arrested for theft and evading arrest after surveillance footage captured him allegedly stealing $34,000 worth of diapers from Captain Hope’s Kids.
Phillips was a former employee of the charity.
But the charity has bounced back quickly from the loss, thanks in large part to AdvoCare International, a Plano health and wellness company, which donated $15,000 to Captain Hope’s Kids and held a diaper drive.
“Wow. That was the first reaction,” said executive director of Captain Hope’s Kids Jeanne Reyer. “AdvoCare has worked with us in the past. This surpassed anything they have done. It was really needed.”
Captain Hope’s Kids distributes over 16,000 diapers per week. They also provide school supplies, recreational activities, and birthday presents for children in need. Their work reached over 44,000 kids in North Texas a year.
