A former sheriff’s deputy was arrested Wednesday for sexual assault charges involving a prison inmate.
Lisa Ziglar was arrested under a law that makes it a felony for a deputy to have even consensual sexual relations with inmates.
She is being held without bond in Gwinnett County, Georgia. She was previously on administrative leave since February 2 when the investigation by the sheriff’s office began, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“The results of our investigation indicated that Deputy Ziglar had participated in a consensual, but illegal, sexual relationship with an inmate that included intimate touching,” Deputy Shannon Volkodav wrote. “Ms. Ziglar’s employment was terminated and the investigative findings were submitted to the district attorney’s office for prosecution.”
This is the second case in a month involving improper sexual relations at a Gwinnett County jail. A nurse working at the jail apparently scheduled “multiple medical procedures” in order to engaged in sexual activity with an inmate there, according to her arrest warrant.
