Is Dr. Ben Carson gearing up to run for president?

Ben Carson is reportedly considering running for President in 2016 after recently leaving Fox News. The retired neurosurgeon said in a recent interview last month that with so many people “clamoring” for him to run, he had to “consider that.” However, recent events indicate that Carson might be more than just considering a bid.

Although any formal announcements of a Presidential bid haven’t come, Carson will air an hour-long documentary this weekend called “A Breath of Fresh Air: A New Prescription for America.” The segment, which details Carson’s life, will be broadcast in 22 states and Washington D.C., according to ABC News.

Following news of his split with Fox News, many outlets believe that the documentary is the first step in a 2016 Presidential campaign for the popular Carson. The documentary was produced and funded by Armstrong Williams, who is also Carson’s business manager.

Carson said about no longer appearing on Fox News that the network “felt I needed complete independence to fully examine my options.” He did not confirm any formal plans to run, however, or hint at when an announcement might be made.

Carson began serving as a Fox News contributor in October 2013, following a rise in political attention on the retired doctor due to a speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast.

Others were less equivocal about Carson’s plans. Tyler Harber, a GOP strategist, said, “The man’s running. He’s been running for two years.”
