U.S. Army Sgt. Jayson Shaw wasn’t expecting to return home from his tour in Afghanistan until spring of next year. When he was sent home early, he decided to surprise his fifth-grade daughter, Kennedy, for Christmas.

Shaw worked with staff at Kennedy’s elementary school in The Colony, Texas, to make sure his plans were kept under wraps.

Tuesday, on the day of Kennedy’s school play, the youngster was called up to the stage to open a “gift” in front of everyone gathered in the auditorium.

Who was in the gift-wrapped giant box with a ribbon on top? Her father.

“She was saying was the only thing she wanted for Christmas was for me to be home,” Jayson told NBC 5’s Brian Scott.

Mission Accomplished.
