This month, tongues were wagging when word spread that Beyonce’s father Mathew Knowles would be throwing a garage sale selling off much of her and Destiny’s Child’s memorabilia.

Some speculated that he was doing this in a last ditch attempt to cash in on his daughter’s fame. But the Grammy award winning singer’s father is now adamantly denying that financial hardship had anything to do with the sale.

Knowles is now clarifying that it was just a simple garage sale that his staff decided to put together.

“Somehow that became we are going out of business, homeless and selling all of Beyonce’s stuff to stay alive, which as you can see it’s just the opposite,” he told Houston’s local NBC station. “If I needed money, I wouldn’t sell $5 T-shirts. I’d sell a Grammy or an MTV award.”

Given the low prices of the boxes of T-shirts, CDs and office furniture at the garage sale, it is estimated that the 63 year old businessman most likely only made about $2000 during the event.

Grio fam, do you think it was tacky of Knowles to have the sale? Or just a simple “decluttering” project that got blown out of proportion?
