Madonna is drawing some heat for altering the images of civil rights icons to promote her new album.

Madonna’s new album, Rebel Heart, drops in March, but last month, the Like a Prayer singer revealed the cover of her album: an image of her face covered in black string.

Today, Madonna took to Instagram to promote Rebel Heart, posting photos of Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela and Bob Marley with their faces covered in black string.

Madonna’s 2.6 million Instagram followers are speaking up and blasting her for using the images of civil rights leaders in an effort to boost interest in her new album.

“Some things shouldn’t be touched… #Disrespect no matter how you view this…” an Instagram user wrote under the photo she posted of Nelson Mandela.

“Its so sad that ppl will really do anything to stay relevant… Smh. Not about race, just about respect,” an Instagram user added under the photo she posted of Martin Luther King Jr.

“being a public figure and using ppl’s image without permission is not cool (gaga). To think that her life is comparable to that of MLK is not cool. Plus she should know she would offend a lot of ppl doing this. Maybe she should do Jesus next?” a user commented under the photo of MLK.

The 56-year-old singer released six new tracks from her Rebel Heart Album last week, including, “Unapologetic Bitch,” “Devil Pray,” “Illuminati,” “Bitch I’m Madonna,” “Ghosttown” and first single, “Living for Love.”
