It’s either very good timing or very bad timing.

Only yesterday, Selma was snubbed by the Oscars after receiving only nominations for best picture and song while director Ava DuVernay and lead actor David Oyelowo were ignored in their categories.

But today, the White House is reportedly hosting a screening of the Civil Rights movie, which details the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the historic march that led to the Voting Rights Act.

The Oscars have been widely criticized for their lack of diversity, and USA TODAY has said that “diversity in Hollywood took another blow with Thursday morning’s Oscar nominations, which saw no people of color nominated for acting and major snubs of the MLK biopic Selma.”

The White House has been planning to host the screening for some time as the beginning of the long weekend for MLK Day. Among the moviegoers is Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga, who 50 years ago was beaten up by police as he marched in Selma.
