theGRIO REPORT - About 20 civil rights protesters gathered outside the home of Parker Rice, a young man seen in a now-infamous video of University of Oklahoma frat boys chanting racist lyrics.
About 20 civil rights protesters gathered outside the home of Parker Rice, a young man seen in a now-infamous video of University of Oklahoma frat boys chanting racist lyrics.
“Make Parker Rice pay the price,” shouted the protesters on Wednesday as they marched up and down the street outside the home, reports WFAA. Police watched from the sidewalk.
Rice was not home, citing safety concerns. In his written apology after the incident, he noted that he “withdrew from the university, and sadly, at this moment our family is not able to be in our home because of threatening calls as well as frightening talk on social media.”
Police had been called in because of the threats, though at one point, the presence of a black officer incited one protester. A masked black woman yelled at the male officer, “You are a brother! They talk about killing you and you’re standing on his property? How can you do that? You’re a brother!”
He walked away from the woman to avoid confrontation.

Dominique Alexander of Next Generation Action Network said they went to the student’s home to get at the source of the problem. “I know that he was only taught this,” he said. “So, that means going to his parents, the environment that he was raised in that taught him this.”
“This issue – time after time – has just been rolled over,” said Alexander. “Yeah, you apologize. Yeah, we move on about it. No. We need to really address the stem of this issue.”
The other OU student identified in the video, Levi Pettit, is also from the Dallas area and has also been expelled from the university.
