Singers Ashanti and Nelly ended their 10-year relationship in December of 2012, and neither has publicly spoken about the reasons behind the split since. However, in a recent interview on the Meredith Vieira Show, Ashanti dropped a few hints, citing trust issues as the main reason for the break.

“I think sometimes when people have their own insecurities, it allows them to act out of character,” Ashanti said in answer to questions about why it can be hard to open up and trust people.

“I’ve been betrayed,” she said, but she did not offer any details or explanation of how she had been betrayed.

“You have to grow up and accept responsibilities for the things that you do,” she added.

“I’m not a big fan of people being cowards. I think it’s really important to know yourself and understand what you want and get it.”

In the same interview, Ashanti spoke about her life after the breakup. She has taken on many acting jobs and has released a new album, “Braveheart,” after six years without an album.

Ashanti also spoke about confronting a long-time stalker, saying it was “not fun” to go to court and see the man there, because he was representing himself in court.
