Earlier this month, a New York City man allegedly brutally beat up a pregnant woman after she failed to thank him for holding the door open for her.

Lakeeya Walker, 22, was arriving to her job at the Elliot Houses when the 28-year-old suspect (who lives at the complex) opened the door for the young woman, who was seven weeks pregnant.

She says when she failed to thank him for his chivalry, he flew into a rage, calling her “an ungrateful f–king b—h” and throwing a cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee in her face. He then picked up the 5-foot 2-inch, 110-pound woman by the neck and started choking her. During the attack, he kicked her in the stomach and crotch after throwing her to the ground.

“I was just thinking, try to protect yourself, try to protect yourself,” she later told DNAinfo New York. “He was trying to kill my baby.”

Walker, who is a NYCHA caretaker at the complex, had a supervisor take her to the hospital after the attack.

NYCHA head Shola Olatoye expressed concern in a statement:

I’m deeply disturbed that one of our employees was the victim of a horrific assault, and relieved that both she and the baby are doing fine and she has safely returned home from the hospital. We are providing assistance to the employee and cooperating with the authorities as they investigate this appalling crime.

In addition to the trauma of the attack, Walker is confused about how the attacker knew of her pregnancy, which is not yet visible.  She doesn’t know the perpetrator but fears he was sent by a disgruntled co-worker.

Her employer has since reassigned her to a new site for her safety.

The incident was caught on surveillance camera, but no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
