Mississippi man's mysterious hanging death may prompt federal investigation

The local NAACP branch is “indicating” the body is that of Otis James Byrd.

Mississippi News Now reports:

The NAACP has now sent an email requesting the US Department of Justice “join the current investigation of the suspicious hanging death of Mr. Otis Byrd.”

54-year-old Otis James Byrd was last seen when a friend dropped him off at Vicksburg’s Riverwalk Casino ten days ago.

They hadn’t heard from him since then.

The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed the body that was found is that of Otis James Byrd. TheGrio.com reached out to Sheriff Marvin Lucas Thursday afternoon.
