Octavia Spencer opened up about her upcoming role in The Divergent Series: Insurgent and what it was like working with such a strong female cast.

TheGrio had the opportunity to chat with the Academy Award winner about her role in the second installment of the series as Johanna Reyes, the voice of the Amity faction. Johanna and the Amity faction are peaceful and very “Zen” members of the futuristic society.

“[Johanna’s] keeping harmony and peace within her faction and with all the other factions,” Spencer said about her character. “It was interesting because she has a duality to her personality, and I enjoyed getting to play that. And also having to show this restraint that I obviously don’t really possess.”

Based in a city that was once Chicago, citizens are divided into five factions based on values and skills. Insurgent starts off right on heels of where Divergent left off. The new movie follows lead characters Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) on their journey, running from Jaenine’s (Kate Winslet) army and plotting to find a way to take her out of power.

Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, Zoe Kravitz and Ashley Judd are just some of the amazing women with roles alongside Spencer.

The Oscar winner called the incredible female cast “rare.” Spencer named some of the leading women — even though she mentioned “Naomi Campbell,” we know what she was going for. “It’s a good group,” she concluded.

The action-packed Insurgent hits theaters today, March 20.
