Man says DMX robbed him at a gas station for $3,200, according to police

Newark police are investigating rapper DMX for his alleged role in a robbery. The investigation, according to police, is still in its “early stages.”

Newark police spokesman Sgt. Ronald Glover said that the victim, 21, recognized DMX and approached him to have a conversation about rap and music.

“The two had a brief conversation about rap music and during the conversation a male in DMX’s entourage, showed the victim a gun and demanded the victim’s money,” Glover said in a statement.

After the victim handed over the money in his pocket, about $3,200 worth, the 44-year-old rapper “snatched the money out of his hand” before jumping into one of four cars to drive away.

The victim then followed DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, on the highway and was able to get a license plate number, which he provided to police.

There have not yet been any arrests or charges in the investigation, according to Glover, and it is not immediately clear whether or not the license plate has actually been linked back to DMX.

This would not be DMX’s first run-in with the law, and in fact, he has become known for such run-ins. In just 2013, he had four separate arrests in South Carolina over several traffic offenses. The last few years have also seen animal cruelty, drug charges and parole violations on the rapper’s record.
