First daughters named most influential teens, Michelle Obama quickly humbles them

Michelle Obama has no idea why her daughters, Sasha and Malia, have been placed on Time magazine’s list of “25 Most Influential Teens.”

The girls were part of Time‘s list that included the likes of Malala Yousafzai last fall as well as controversial picks like Kylie Jenner and Lorde.

“They’re not influential, they just live here,” the first lady said, laughing, during an interview with Live With Kelly and Michael at the White House. “They have done nothing to gain any influence.”

Still, the First Lady couldn’t pass up the opportunity to brag about her girls, who she described as “pretty self-motivated” and responsible.

“We’ve always had rules…no screen time during the week, no phones,” FLOTUS said. “Now that Malia is older she is pretty much independent, because I want her to be prepared for college when I’m not there. But they get their stuff done. They handle their business.”

Asked if the honor would give the girls big egos and make them shirk their responsibilities, the First Lady said, “I don’t even think that they realize that they’re influential. I don’t think anybody showed them that article!”

It sounds like the First Family is doing a great job keeping things grounded and keeping it real.
