Darren Sharper must undergo routine sexual arousal tests as part of plea deal

theGRIO REPORT - Darren Sharper, the former NFL Pro Bowl safety who plead guilty to the sexual assault of nine women, will undergo regular sexual arousal tests as part of a plea deal that would land him in probation for the rest of his life.

Darren Sharper, the former NFL Pro Bowl safety who plead guilty to the sexual assault of nine women, will undergo regular sexual arousal tests as part of a plea deal that would land him in probation for the rest of his life.

“There is a significant period that is hanging over his head,” Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro told The Times-Picayune, in response to claims that the plea deal was too lenient. “Essentially, he will be on probation for the rest of his life. He will be required to stay in Arizona for the larger portion of his life. So, from the perspective of the sentence, I do believe this is, to some extent, an onerous sentence on Mr. Sharper.”

Sharper, 39, will serve less than nine years in prison before serving his life in probation. He will have to undergo lie detector tests as well as a penile plethysmograph, which records sexual arousal by flashing graphic sexual images, reports The New Orleans Advocate.

Sharper will also face travel restrictions, and he will not be allowed in any bars or liquor stores. He will not be allowed to drink alcohol,  and he will be prohibited from trying to get a date on the Internet.

“When he’s an old man, [the probation] will extremely limit what he can do, where he can go and who he can see,” Arizona criminal defense lawyer Howard Snader told The Advocate. “If you’re writing this from the angle that he’s never going to get out of the system, that’s correct. If you’re writing that he got a sweetheart deal, then, nah.”
