theGRIO REPORT - Recently, a lawyer from Kenya told The Nairobian newspaper that he plans to ask President Barack Obama for his 16-year-old daughter Malia Obama’s hand in marriage when the president visits his country later this summer.

This week, a lawyer from Kenya told The Nairobian newspaper that he plans to ask President Barack Obama for his 16-year-old daughter Malia Obama’s hand in marriage when the president visits his country later this summer.

Felix Kiprono says he is willing to provide a dowry that consists of 50 cows, 70 sheep and 30 goats in the exchange because he has had his eye on her since she was ten years old.

“I got interested in her in 2008,” Kiprono said of the first daughter. “As a matter of fact, I haven’t dated anyone since and promise to be faithful to her. I have shared this with my family and they are willing to help me raise the bride price.”

“People might say I am after the family’s money, which is not the case. My love is real,” he added. “I am currently drafting a letter to Obama asking him to please have Malia accompany him for this trip. I hope the embassy will pass the letter to him. I will hand it over to the US Ambassador with whom we have interacted several times.”

Kiprono would also like to assure the president that he will treat his daughter with the utmost respect.

“As an indication that she is my queen, I will tie sinendet, which is a sacred plant, around her head,” he explained “I will propose to her on a popular hill in Bureti near my father’s land where leaders and warriors are usually crowned. The place is called Kapkatet, which means ‘victory.’” He then added, “ours will be a simple life. I will teach Malia how to milk a cow, cook ugali and prepare mursik like any other Kalenjin woman.”

The president has responded favorably to heartfelt letters written to him in the past. Most recently, he made a trip to South Dakota, after a young girl named Rebecca said she was heartbroken he’d never visited her state.

We’ll keep you posted on whether or not he chooses to address Kiprono’s request.
