Young and the Restless star Kristoff St. John and his ex-wife Mia are opening up about the tragic death of their son Julian in a new interview.

Speaking with to ET’s Kevin Frazier Tuesday,  the couple also discussed the lawsuit they filed charging the mental facility where their son was staying with negligence.

Their son Julian died in November of an apparent suicide.

His actor father spoke briefly about the call from Mia telling him that their son had died.

“That call was the worst call I had ever gotten in my life,” he said. “It’s every parent’s nightmare. When I heard her screaming he had died, I knew.”

But both Kristoff and Mia believe that their son might still be alive if he had received better care. In a lawsuit filed Tuesday, they allege that the La Casa Psychiatric Health Facility falsified documents to cover up the fact that they regularly missed scheduled check-ins and that they were not paying as close attention to Julian as they should have been.

“He attempted suicide two and a half weeks prior to when he actually completed it,” Mia said, “and he was supposed to be on suicide watch.”

According to Kristoff and Mia, although Julian was supposed to be checked on every fifteen minutes, surveillance footage shows that he was alone in the bathroom with a bag over his head for almost an hour before anyone noticed. Even then, there did not seem to be a rush to save him.

“There was really no emergency there,” Kristoff said. “We see on surveillance people walking around very slowly.” He then asked, “How do you not call 911 immediately?”

“Had Defendents acted with even the slightest regard for Julian’s safety, he would still be alive today,” the lawsuit states.
