A Chicago area zoo fired an employee whose remarks on Facebook stirred controversy all over social media.

The post in question was a Facebook status from a young employee wearing the zoo uniform with the caption: “Wassup ya’ll? At work serving these rude a** white people”

The zoo was alerted to the post when a customer posted it to their Facebook page saying that “extremely racist” and “crossed the line.” The image was then shared over 6,000 times and garnered over 7,000 likes.

“Yesterday, we became aware of the actions of a single employee which we agree are unacceptable,” the Chicago Zoological Society said in a statement Tuesday. “This employee’s statements in social media are in violation of our policies and do not reflect our institution’s values.

“We have zero tolerance for these kinds of divisive behaviors,” the statement continued. “We treat all employment matters confidentially, but rest assured that we have taken prompt action to remedy the situation.”

Hundreds of customers wrote in calling for the termination of the employee, but some believe that the post was not worth losing her job over.

The employee actually tagged the Brookfield Zoo’s Facebook page as part of the status message.
