Suspect in 82-year-old's rape busted after his mother helps police

theGrio REPORT - Asa Roberts, the 18-year-old who was accused of the brutal rape and assault of an 82-year-old, surrendered peacefully on Friday after a four-day manhunt.

Asa Roberts, the 18-year-old who was accused of the brutal rape and assault of an 82-year-old, surrendered peacefully on Friday after a four-day manhunt.

Police were able to track him down after Roberts’ mother told them about his new cell phone number, which they were able to use to track him to his girlfriend’s place.

Roberts was wanted for a rape and assault that allegedly lasted for four hours, during which, the victim claimed, Roberts not only raped and sodomized her but also forced her to swear on a Bible that she would not send police after him.

While a fingerprint match confirmed that Roberts was present in the room and he was caught on camera leaving and entering the house, he maintained his innocence.

“I’m sorry for being in her house,” said Roberts. “I apologize, but I did not rape the lady. That’s all I have to say. Have a nice day.”

He was arraigned Friday and is being held without bail.

“The defendant committed an incredibly serious crime. He violently and physically assaulted an 82-year-old woman in her home,” Special Prosecutor Elizabeth Doerfler said. “He spent significant amount of time in her house, terrorizing her and sexually assaulting her, both vaginally and anally.”
