A Brooklyn man says that his car was hit by a police SUV after the police officers ran a stop sign, but he was then blamed for the accident.

He says New York police officers tried to frame him by saying he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

“I think the whole thing was insane,” Oliver Wiggins told the New York Daily News. “They ran a stop sign and I think they were trying to hide that they caused the accident.”

While the charges of DUI were dismissed after the 31-year-old voluntarily took a blood test that proved he did not have any alcohol in his system, he still wants the cops who hit him to be held accountable for causing the accident. Instances like this where there are disputes on who the at-fault party is, is one of the reasons why it is important to hire a car accident lawyer after you get involved in a road accident.

The accident report says, “Responding officers observed signs which indicate (Wiggins) may be intoxicated,” and added watery, red eyes and slurred speech as examples.

“We believe this arrest was improper and solely motivated to cover up the actions of the police officers in failing to yield at a stop sign,” said lawyer Scott Rynecki.

Wiggins’ lawyer has since sent a letter to Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson, and the letter is currently being reviewed to determine what action should be taken in this case.

In the meantime, Wiggins is still shaken by the experience.

“I have never been in handcuffs in my life,” he said. “I’ve lost my trust in police. It’s scary they can frame an innocent person.”
