Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

It was all just a misunderstanding.

After a short Twitter “feud” between Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj, Taylor came forward on Twitter to say she was wrong, and she is sorry. “I thought I was being called out,” she tweeted. “I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I’m sorry, Nicki.”

The original Twitter feud started with Nicki tweeted out: “If I was a different ‘kind’ of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well,” and, “When the ‘other’ girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination.”

Taylor, who had been nominated, thought the tweets were about her and took offense, but then Nicki explained that she was not calling the pop star out specifically but rather speaking to the racism in the system.

“Nothing to do with any of the women, but everything to do with a system that doesn’t credit black women for their contributions to pop culture as freely/quickly as they reward others,” she wrote. “We are huge trendsetters, not second class citizens that get thrown crumbs.”

When Taylor realized she’d jumped into a conversation about race and not sexism, she bowed out, and Nicki just as graciously accepted the apology: “That means so much Taylor, thank you.”
