Chelsea Clinton weighs in on Kanye West running for president

Chelsea Clinton doesn't think it's a bad idea for Kanye West to run for president in 2020.

Chelsea Clinton probably isn’t thinking too much about the 2020 presidential race, especially since her mom, Hillary Clinton, is running for the 2016 race. But that doesn’t mean she thinks that it’s a bad idea for Kanye West to run.

“I definitely think who runs for office is really important,” she told MTV News when asked about Kanye’s apparent announcement in his MTV VMAs acceptance speech that he would be running for president. “Even if him just saying that helps sparks a little boy or a little girl who was watching the VMAs to think, ‘Oh, wow! Maybe I should do that,’ that’s awesome.”

But that doesn’t necessarily mean that she’ll be voting for Kanye.

“I think it depends on who he’d be running against,” she said when asked if she would cast her vote for him.

That makes sense, of course. If Kanye is running against her mom, for example, then there’s really no contest.

The idea of a Kanye West presidential run began last Sunday during the VMAs when Kanye announced that he would be running.

“It’s about ideas bro, new ideas. People with ideas, people who believe in truth,” West said during his speech. “And yes, as you could have guessed by this moment, I have decided, in 2020, to run for President.”
