Forbes postsĀ 'shady' tweet during Venus Serena match, fans not amused

Forbes magazine sent out a tweet during the Venus and Serena Williams matchĀ that seemed to be throwing thinly veiled shade ā€”Ā and Black Twitter was not amused.

Tuesday evening, social media was abuzzĀ as fans watched the Williams sisters face off in theĀ U.S. Open quarterfinals. However, it quickly became apparent that whoever was manning the Forbes Twitter feed wasn’t feeling all the love being directed at the tennis champions and decided to indulge in a moment of pettiness that was hard to miss.

As Serena wasĀ claiming her victory, before the sweat could even dry from her brows, the magazine Tweeted, “Maria Sharapova ā€” the business behind the world’s most marketable female athlete,” along with a link to an article from August.

Given the suspicious timing of the tweet, the debatable nod toĀ Maria SharapovaĀ (who Serena has beaten 17 times in a row), and the fact that the article was old ā€”Ā Williams supportersĀ immediately called a foul and blew up Forbes’ mentions for the rest of the evening.
