In 2007, Donda West, the mother of Kanye West, died after a cosmetic surgery gone wrong. Now, years later, her surgeon, Dr. Jan Adams, is trying desperately to clear his name.

Adams says that the problem arose when Donda insisted that she wanted to recover at home with her nephew, Stephan Scoggins, rather than at a medical facility, and it was lack of after-surgery care that caused her death.

“What’s Donda West’s problem? Her nurse wasn’t there,” Adams revealed to Inside Edition. “Her nurse was gone to a baby shower rather than take care of his aunt.”

Reading out notes he made regarding Donda’s death, Dr. Adams said that her caregivers gave her “20 vicodin tabs in less than 20 hours.”

He went on to say that her death could have been prevented if a nurse was present, because she had choked to death on vomit while lying flat on her back.

“This lady shouldn’t be dead. All you had to do was sit her up. And every nurse on the planet knows that.”

Now, Adams says, he is struggling to make a livelihood as a once flourishing practice dried up because patients would no longer come to him after such a high-profile death. What’s more, Adams is suffering from arthritis and is struggling to keep up even what practice he has.

“I think I was set up as the fall guy,” Adams said as he begged Kanye West to end the campaign against him. “Kanye West can end this by telling the truth. The doctor had nothing to do with his mom’s death. The truth, when you bury it, it just grows bigger.”
