A Florida police officer had just walked into a Dunkin’ Donuts to grab some breakfast when a young boy announced that he wanted to pay for the officer’s meal. Although the officer thanked the boy and tried to decline, he and his parents insisted, and the act of kindness brought tears to the officer’s eyes.

NBC Miami reports, the Broward Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook this week that Deputy Donnie Jackson was looking to find the family of this little boy so he could thank them.

He explained what had happened that day, saying, “As I enter, all eyes are fixed on me. I could only imagine what was going through the minds of the people inside the restaurant with all the negativity surrounding law enforcement officials.”

He ordered his breakfast and was at the register when the boy announced, “I’m gonna pay for his.” Although he tried to politely decline, the boy and his parents insisted, and the boy explained that he wanted to do something to pay Jackson back for doing his “thankless job.”

“It’s a good thing I had on my Oakley’s [sic] because I really teared up,” Jackson said on Facebook. “I really appreciated this kind act by this kid and the fine qualities being instilled in him by his parents.”
