CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (AP) — One of the roughly 20 students at a Virginia high school who received a one-day suspension for wearing clothing displaying the Confederate flag says he doesn’t intend to back down.
Christiansburg High School Senior Houston Miller organized a rally outside the school Thursday to protest a new school policy banning vehicles with Confederate symbols from its parking lot.
Houston and many other students who gathered for the protest were suspended after refusing to take off clothing displaying the flag before entering the school.
The school’s dress code prohibits students from wearing articles that reflect adversely on people because of race, gender, or other factors.
Miller said he plans to show up tomorrow wearing Confederate flag gear because he believes he should have the right to wear whatever he wants.
