DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina man accused of trying to drown his children could face new charges after one daughter died in a hospital.

Durham police said Wednesday that the 3-year-old daughter of Alan Tysheen Eugene Lassiter died three days after her father tried to drown her and her sister in an apartment complex pond. Police have not given the girl’s name.
The child was underwater when an off-duty sheriff’s deputy pulled her out Sunday night. She had been in critical condition since then.
Lassiter is currently charged with three counts of attempted murder for trying to kill the girl, her sister and their 7-year-old brother. Lassiter’s 5-year-old daughter was rescued from the pond and was discharged from the hospital. Police say the boy got away from Lassiter and ran for help.
