Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams could barely hold back his tears at a press conference following the death of a 5-month-old girl in a drive-by shooting.

“Another innocent child in our city has been taken from us, basically by thugs in the street who want to carry out this vendetta against each other,” he said. “Our innocent babies get caught in the crossfire.”

“It’s enough. Enough is enough,” Williams continued. “When are we going to stop counting babies killed out there?”

“We’re going to stay on this as long as it takes,” he added. “We want bodies in jail for the crime.”

When the time came for the police chief to address the family, he became visibly upset and had to turn away from the camera to compose himself. “For the family, it’s tough,” he said. “It’s tough. This should not be happening in our city. We’ve got to do something about it.”

Williams has seen far too many of these shootings lately, and the girl, who has been identified as Aavielle Wakefield, is the third very young child in less than a month to be killed in a drive-by shooting.

“This should not be happening in our city,” he said.
