Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson has been in trouble lately over remarks he made concerning the mass shooting at Oregon in which he suggested that the victims should have rushed the gunman.
Now, he is telling the story of how he reacted when a gun was pulled on him.
“I have had a gun held on me when I was in a Popeye’s organization,” he told Sirius XM Radio host Karen Hunter Wednesday, according to CNN. “Guy comes in, put the gun in my ribs. And I just said, ‘I believe that you want the guy behind the counter.'”
The answer is interesting, considering his approach in this situation seems vastly different from the one he proposed when asked about the Oregon shooting.
“Not only would I probably not cooperate with him, I would not just stand there and let him shoot me. I would say, ‘Hey, guys, everybody attack him! He may shoot me but he can’t get us all,'” Carson had said during an interview on Fox and Friends.
The growing backlash has only increased since Carson made the comments, with many calling them insensitive. Mathew Downing in particular, who survived the shooting because the gunman spared him, told CNN: “I’m fairly upset he said that. Nobody could truly understand what actions they would take like that in a situation unless they lived it.”
