Thursday, a 14-year-old boy was choked and slammed to the ground at his high school by authorities — and now his father is planning to press charges against those who were involved.

According to KXAN-TV, footage posted online shows Gyasi Hughes being questioned by two officers inside Round Rock High School. When Hughes attempts to walk away, one of the officers attempts to hold him back. Shortly thereafter, the young man is grabbed by the throat and spun around before being dropped to the floor.

The other officer jumps in to assist in holding down the teen as adults on the scene — presumed to be school staff — keep other students and witnesses from intervening. Following the incident, Hughes was not arrested but was suspended from class for a single day.

In a statement, authorities claim police had broken up a fight between Hughes and another student and that when Hughes “refused to calm down” they chose to “detain him for his safety.”

While Hughes admits that he got into a dispute with another boy, he denies allegation that he was trying to go after another student, saying that he was only upset with the police for “getting in his face.”

The boys father, Kashka Hughes, has filed a police report and plans to press charges.
