Only six months after their Las Vegas wedding, Lark Voorhies has filed for divorce from Jimmy Green.

The divorce papers, which cited irreconcilable differences as the cause of their split, were filed on Monday in Pasadena, California.

“They can remain friends, but it’s best they sever their marriage ties,” Voorhies’ mother, Tricia, told PEOPLE. “Lark is ready to move forward with her life and wishes him well with his life.”

The two were married in April in a private ceremony, and Lark said in a statement at the time, “We have known it was meant to be for a while now and are so happy we found each other. I look forward to all the wonderful moments and memories we will create together. Thank you so much for all the well wishes and we appreciate them indeed!”

“He’s not [taking advantage of me],” Voorhies, 41, told ET‘s Kevin Frazier in an interview that quickly turned awkward. “We’re selectively together for all the right reasons.”

Green also spoke up to defend himself and declare his sincere love for his new bride.

“We’re the same as any other couple out there that’s in love and trying to accomplish business together. It’s not a scam or a way to get money.”
