Instead of singing about how her milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard, Kelis is now in the kitchen whipping them up, along with a bevy of other edible delights featured in her new book.

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Instead of singing about how her milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard, Kelis is now in the kitchen whipping them up, along with a bevy of other edible delights featured in her new book.

Turns out the singer is also a trained chef who studied at Cordon Bleu and has recently released My Life on a Plate, a new cookbook that showcases her love of food.

In an interview with Page Six, the 36-year old confesses she’d love to appear on Iron Chef.

“I would love to do the show but … I cook at my leisure right now and I remember when I graduated from culinary school and when I was working on a line at a restaurant I was so fast because I was seasoned to be that way,” Kelis said, reminiscing about her life in 2008. “I’m not as fast as I was back then. I would need to get back into that frame of mind.”

“Those guys are beasts and they are so fast and so good,” she said. “I could be really creative, but definitely moving at my own pace right now. I definitely want to get my chops up.”

In addition to embracing her new career, Kelis is also expecting her second son. She says Knight, her 6-year-old son with ex-husband Nas, is excited about being a big brother.

“He’s over the moon,” she shared. “He feels like … the baby is more related to him than any of us. He just feels like it’s his baby … he’s all about it. I’m like great, I’m so glad you’re into this.”
