St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey was shot twice in the head Tuesday night, according to an NFL statement.

Bailey was riding in a car with family in Miami Gardens, Florida, when another car pulled up alongside and started shooting. Bailey was hit in the head twice, and his cousin, who was driving, was struck multiple times.

The NFL player’s injuries are reportedly non-life threatening. He is in stable condition and expected to undergo surgery Wednesday. The driver, however, is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

In a statement released by the Rams Tuesday night, the organization did not address the type of injury Bailey received but noted they had spoken to him.

We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening. We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more.

Bailey is currently serving a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Fellow NFL players have tweeted their support and prayers for Bailey.
