Rapper 2 Chainz was able to give back this holiday season when he, in connection with his charity, the T.R.U. Foundation, provided not only furniture for a disabled veteran’s home but also paid her rent for a year, reports CNN.

Deirdre Plater is a single mother who has had a hard time making ends meet, and for the past year, she has been unable to find a job. But on Saturday, 2 Chainz paid her a visit, and he brought along some early Christmas gifts.

“Last week was my son’s birthday and his mentor’s sister brought us something to eat for Thanksgiving while dropping off money for some groceries and she noticed that we didn’t have any furniture in the house,” Plater explained.

“I guess that sparked my son’s mentor Mark Barnes to do something special for us and when he got the call from 2 Chainz about helping a family it all fell into place.”

After meeting with Plater, 2 Chainz posted about the experience on Instagram, saying that he remembered what it was like to have nothing. In a second post, he added that he felt it was “important to give back when you’ve got it.”

“This is just as emotional for the people helping as it is for those we are helping,” he said.
