Teves Lee’s salon, Your Hair N More, in Long Beach is appointment-only, but when a woman walked in without an appointment, something made Lee stop and call her back to the salon.

Lee said that she noticed the woman’s hair was dry and brittle and that it had some debris in it, and that was how Lee realized that the woman was homeless, reports ABC News.

“I asked her had she considered cutting it off to make it easier to maintain. I told her, ‘You’re not in the position to keep your hair done or sleep in places that allow it to stay clean,'” Lee recalled. “I convinced her to get a cute women’s cut.”

Although the woman seemed not to be all that thrilled about the prospect of cutting her hair, it turns out Lee’s offer of a haircut came at exactly the right time.

“While we were sitting there, she got a phone call that said she had gotten a job interview,” Lee said. “I said, ‘Well, that’s a sign. That’s a sign.’ The job interview was the very next day.”
