On Christmas Eve, an off-duty police officer shot and killed an 18-year-old rapper at the Northlake Mall in Charlotte, N.C.

The incident began when Daquan Antonio Westbrook, also known as Donkey Cartel, allegedly shot another man. Off-duty officer Thomas Ferguson was at the mall when he heard multiple shots ring out.

Ferguson went to a shoe store, where Westbrook allegedly then pointed a firearm at him, at which point Ferguson shot Westbrook.

Although authorities are still trying to gather the details of the incident, they said that “the incident was not a random act of violence.” Westbrook and the man involved in the first shooting incident knew each other,  authorities said.
