Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

In a new 12-minute documentary from Fader entitled Stopped Making Excuses, Mac Miller touched on the subject of being a white rapper as well as the issues of “white guilt” and the Black Lives Matter movement.

“I think I got a benefit from being white,” Miller says in the clip. “I think white kids can see me and see themselves, like ‘that could be me,’”

“I think that was a huge boost for me, and a guilty thing when I was coming up, like ‘Ah f**k, am I only here because I’m white,’” Miller continues. “Is that the only reason?”

In that same interview, Miller touches on his previous drug use, saying, “I’d rather be the corny white rapper than the drugged-out mess that can’t even get out of his house.”

Earlier, in December, Miller had touched on racial issues by taking to Twitter to ask, “Dear white people that listen to rap music… what have you done for the #BlackLivesMatter movement?”
